Future Plans

FACILITY

Vathsalya has a reception centre that takes care of children who may be sick or in need of stabilization before going into foster homes or in adoption. Vathsalya can accommodate up to 50 children in the age group 0 to 5 years. The foster care programme enables us to take in all children needing care and protection. At the Child Care Unit, infants, from one-day old to two years, are cared for round the clock, by qualified nurses and experienced child caregivers. Jeevan Karuna is home to children older than 24 months and a shelter to pregnant women in distress. These children are looked after by experienced childcare givers under the supervision of the housemother. To help our children experience the emotions of love and care, there is one caregiver for two infants. In fact, because of this ratio, the infants are carried more often, than kept in cribs. There is an isolation room with warmers, for newborns, who are premature or underweight with minor infections. The Centre has been equipped with most of the facilities to meet every need to the children as well as normal activities, be it their feeding, bathing, oil massaging and physiotherapy (as part of infant stimulation).

Educational Sponsorship Programme (Better future for Underprivileged Children)

"To look into some aspects of the future, we do not need super computers. Much of the millennium can be seen in how we care for our children today. Tomorrow's world may be influenced by science and technology, but more than anything it is already taking shape in the bodies and minds of our children". Kofi A. Annan, Secretary General, UN

Objectives of the programme:

1. To prevent child abandonment.
2. To preserve family by meeting their needs through community programmes.
3. To prevent child labour.
4. To conscientize people towards the significance of education.
5. To encourage and empower girl towards education and promote gender       equality.
6. To promote the concept of small family norms.
